Woah.
I am feeling humbled, and shocked and little dizzy given the insane week I have just had!
Friday was the Telstra Business Awards where I was a finalist in the Start Up Category … It wasn’t until I learned I was one of 1000 entrants that I realised that it was a pretty mammoth achievement just to get to the finals! I didn’t win the category, but the entire experience from nomination, to the INSANELY HUGE application form and an intense 30 minute panel interview all about the ins and outs of my business was an incredible experience in itself.
Then Monday swings around and it’s a full day watching judging of the South Australian Professional Photography Awards (lovingly known as SAPPA). Judging consists of photographers sitting in a dark room watching their beloved images being presented to 5 industry expert judges and given a score and feed back about what they do or don’t like about an image. It’s incredibly exciting and nerve wracking and we all wear our hearts on our sleeves. Personally I ate far too many chico babies, but it was an incredible day to watch three of my wedding images receive a SILVER award and one of my images in the family category receiving a silver with distinction and the other a GOLD!
Then Wednesday swings around and we have a fancy awards dinner, and …. blow me down with a feather … I damn well won SA Family Photographer of the Year for 2014.
I usually think I have a pretty good intuition, but I tell you what, it was COMPLETELY off on this one. I don’t think I’ve ever been more shocked in my life. In fact, I’m pretty sure I said “are you sure?” when they called my name!
So now I’ve managed to pick myself up off the floor, I thought I’d share the images that were awarded … starting with the three silvers from Wedding:
And all four of my prints from family:
It has been such an honour to be surrounded by amazing friends and incredibly talented photographers. We have a wonderfully supportive community here in South Australia and I’m very lucky to call them my friends.
The finalists for the Family Category were Karen Pfieffer (all round awesome chic and great friend) and Naomi Bubner (fairy photographer extraordinaire and one of the sweetest people on the planet)
Congratulations to all the finalists for all the categories and, of course, the amazing David Sievers who won SA Photographer of the Year 2014.
Now I’m going to go to sleep for a month! (kidding – got too much work to do!)
Kx
